Callie Cox Leaves Ritholtz for Plancorp Strategy Role

Callie Cox, who stepped down as chief market strategist at Ritholtz Wealth Management after about two years with the firm, has joined Plancorp Wealth Management, a St. Louis-based fee-only wealth management firm with $10.5 billion in assets under management, as director of investment strategy.

Cox will work alongside Plancorp’s Chief Investment Officer Peter Lazaroff to shape the firm’s investment strategy, portfolio direction and strategic priorities. She’ll also create market research and investment insights and join investment committee discussions.

“She is thoughtful about markets, grounded in long-term investing principles and exceptionally good at connecting research and strategy to the questions advisors and clients are asking,” Lazaroff said in a statement.

When Cox joined Ritholtz in 2024, she launched “OptimistiCallie,” her weekly newsletter that was publicly available through The Compound, Ritholtz’s multiple programs and podcasts. She also became a member of The Compound.

In an August newsletter, Cox announced she was leaving Ritholtz and described the personal and physical struggles she went through during a difficult pregnancy. She gave birth to twins earlier this year, and then went through postpartum depression.

She also talked about changes she wanted to make in her career, namely, that she no longer wanted to be “the talking head.”

“A few years ago, I made the conscious choice to focus on the bridge between market analysis and money management. Today, I’ve decided I want to strengthen that skillset even more,” she wrote.

A spokesperson for Ritholtz did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Prior to joining Ritholtz, Cox was an investment analyst at social investing platform eToro. Prior to eToro, she held research roles at Ally, LPL Financial and First Citizens Bank. She started her career as a reporter at Bloomberg covering U.S. stock and options markets.

“I was drawn to Plancorp because of the firm’s thoughtful approach to investing and its commitment to helping people make sense of complex financial decisions,” Cox said in a statement. “Plancorp has a strong investment philosophy, an incredibly thoughtful team and a culture that values both rigor and clear communication.”
